BATANGAS CITY - The provincial government of Batangas will help the families of three evacuees who died in Laurel town and one in Agoncillo.
The Laurel evacuees were non-COVID patients who died as a result of a disease.
At a meeting of the Batangas Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), PDRRM Officer Joselito Castro reported on the case of evacuees who died due to various diseases they suffered before the eruption of Taal Volcano on July 1,2021.
Among the dead was an 85-year-old resident of Brgy. Gulod stroke and bedridden, a 68-year-old resident of Brgy. Buso-Buso with asthma and a 45-year-old from Brgy. Gulod with liver problems. The death of an 89-year-old resident of Brgy. Subic Ibaba in Agoncillo town who tested positive in RT-PCR test and experienced weakness, loss of taste, cold and cough.
According to Bb. Barbara Macaraig of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office in Laurel town, such evacuees had a pre-existing condition even before the Taal volcano's phreatomagmatic eruption on July 1.
He said the Municipal Health Office in collaboration with Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) conducts daily monitoring regarding the health condition of evacuees in all evacuation centers.
They also provide medicines and vitamins to all those who are stranded in evacuation centers so that they can focus on their health and strengthen their bodies.
According to Bb. Josalyn Cortez, MSWDO of Agoncillo, the local government also provided burial assistance to the deceased resident's bereaved family.
In liaison with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) Assistant Head Florita Lachica, she specified that they are in contact with the MSWDO of Laurel and Agoncillo to process and arrange the necessary documents to also provide burial or financial assistance from to the Provincial Government of Batangas.
Meanwhile, in contact with the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the province, the recorded COVID positive resident of Agoncillo town and died of Our Lady of Caysasay in Taal town temporarily moved to his own house in Alitagtag town above Alert Level 3 is Taal Volcano.
In this regard, contact tracing has also been performed where ten people were identified to be its closed contacts and it turned out that two (2) of them were positive for COVID 19 while eight were negative results.
