LUCENA CITY - The Lucena City railway station is a picturesque stop, but it has recently appeared tired and in need of polishing. The national government has acted, instructing Mayor Roderick Dondon Alcala to see what can be done.
The renovation of the city's railway station is about to begin as one of the national government's projects. This comes after a company from another country presented some configuration details and data.
The meeting with various offices and agencies was led by Mayor Roderick Dondon Alcala. The Department of Transportation (DOT), Philippine National Railways (PNR), China Railways, National Housing Authorities (NHA), and RC Pollo are among them.
The Lucena substation rehabilitation project is part of the project to renovate several stations in San Pablo, Laguna, Tiaong town, Candelaria, Sariaya, Lucena, and Pagbilao, Quezon.
He stated that the new train has a top speed of 80 to 100 kilometers per hour, which can shorten commuters' trips.
It is estimated that the station to be built in the city will be 49 meters in the Barangay Cotta area and 47 meters in the Barangay 10 area, where some households will be affected by the project due to the relocation of some residents in the areas mentioned.
According to Urban Poor Affairs and Development Head Miled Ibias, the City Government, particularly Mayor Dondon Alcala, will not neglect the people because he already has a relocation site reserved for them and will pay for it through PNR if there is private property to pass through.
It is estimated that the upcoming implementation of such renovations will affect the barangays of Salinas, Ibabang Talim, Ibabang Iyam, Mayao Parada, Mayao Crossing, Mayao Castillo, Silangang Mayao, as well as Barangay 8 especially Barangay 10 and Barangay Cotta because they are there.
In this regard, the captains of the aforementioned barangays were invited to the meeting in order to provide them with information on the train's future plans, such as its new design and realignment.
Through this, the barangays will be prepared when the Philippine National Railways and National Housing Authority groups visit for their respective concerns.
The barangay chiefs were also made aware at the meeting that the NHA's role in social preparation or community preparation will play a significant role for them.
In an interview with the head of the City Urban Poor Affairs office, Miled Ibias, he stated that this will not be the last meeting with the barangay captains, but rather the first of many more meetings as part of the local government's community coordination.
The NHA plans to start visiting the aforementioned barangays for house tagging in July.
Following this, it is expected that there will be community assemblies where the corresponding number of affected families will be reduced, though they will still be subject to validations.
In this regard, Ibias emphasized that the local government, led by Mayor Roderick Dondon Alcala, has planned relocation sites for the affected families and that the City Government will not forget them.
Ibias is also proud that the Lucena Substation is one of the most major projects ever undertaken.
Mayor Alcala, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the agencies that joined forces to renovate the station, which is considered a historical landmark in the city.
Commuters heading to Manila will benefit from this arrangement because it will be easier and less congested.
He stated that China Railway Design Corporation hopes to complete the project by 2025.
