Staying up late at night, staring at computers, getting ready for online synchronous sessions. During this online setup, this may appear to be a typical day in the life of a student. However, this has also been true for our teachers.
After a year of distance learning, it was clear that the unconventional learning methods had taken a toll not only on the students, but also on their teachers. This abrupt shift has challenged teachers to navigate the unfamiliar waters of the digital world, from writing on chalkboards to presenting Powerpoints on Zoom.
Teachers have always had to sacrifice their personal time, space, and money to care for their students, even before the pandemic. Without a doubt, the pandemic has exacerbated that burden. Instead of having a place to unwind, teachers were forced to blur the line between work and home in order to fulfill their responsibilities as educators of the youth.
Teachers are compelled to prioritize both their students and their families, rather than worrying about their own children at home. Despite having household chores and personal problems, our teachers have proven to be resilient enough to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the fact that we no longer have the means to provide the experience of face-to-face learning, our teachers have done their best to engage their students in learning. Our teachers have visited students who have been absent from class due to a lack of internet access, and some have even donated personal funds so that their students can participate in synchronous sessions.
This just goes to show that now, more than ever, it is time to recognize the challenges that teachers face on a daily basis in order to ensure that this generation does not stop learning. It is critical to recognize teachers who go above and beyond to ensure that students reach their full potential despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adapting to new challenges is invariably difficult, but teachers have a moral obligation to move on and educate the youth. Teachers, as the future's frontliners, must continue to educate the Filipino youth. During the pandemic, our teachers demonstrated that it is possible to provide a high-quality education even in difficult circumstances.
