BATANGAS CITY - In the coastal towns of Batangas Province, a mangrove assessment and survey will be done to estimate the extent of mangrove and sea grass regions, as well as their varieties.
It is one of the initiatives that the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources (PGENRO) will undertake in late 2021, in conjunction with the private sector, to enhance, protect, and maintain a healthy, clean, and rich environment across the province.
Programs for the third and fourth quarters of the year were addressed in an online discussion between PGENRO and First Gen Corporation.
It was also agreed to carry out the identification of various capacity building activities that will help the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Lead Persons, who are usually Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers and Municipal Agriculturists, as well as members of the Coast Guard to continue to increase their knowledge for environmental protection.
Insurance benefits and identification cards, which they can use on patrol to defend the ocean against illegal activities, are also being considered as incentives for Bantay Dagat members.
Despite the pandemic, PGENRO continues to deliver public services in compliance with Governor DoDo Mandanas' directive. (with reports from PG-ENRO-Batangas Capitol PIO)
