CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - Governor Ramil Hernandez is said to have agreed with the Inter-Agency Task Force to place Laguna under a strict enhanced community quarantine in order to avoid the Covid-19 case from spreading due to the Delta variant.
In an interview with Hernandez, he announced that placing the province under the ECQ would help to take more drastic measures amid the threat of the more contagious Delta variant.
According to him, the ECQ will be valuable in anticipating the likely continuation of the Covid-19 cases.
Hernandez confirmed that a meeting was held between the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Department of Health and the governors of various provinces in Calabarzon to discuss the ECQ recommendation throughout the region.
According to Hernandez, public hospitals in Laguna are already overloaded as a result of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the region.
In addition, the Governor is concerned that private hospitals may reach a point of ‘critical capacity.'
In this regard, he stated that the province's quarantine facilities are ready to be used by patients with minor Covid-19 symptoms.
Laguna vs. Delta variant
The Governor further stated that the Delta variant instances reported in the province are being adequately addressed, since they have all recovered and tested negative for the disease.
He added that the provincial health authority has been stringent with contact tracing to avoid the spread of such variants.
Cash Assistance for residents
If the province is placed on the ECQ, the provincial government is prepared to provide non-cash help to anyone affected by the lockdown, such as relief products.
Hernadez, on the other hand, requested aid from the national government in the form of cash support because they lacked the necessary funds.
Laguna's entire province is currently in modified enhanced community quarantine. According to DOH Region 4A data, there were 3,032 current Covid-19 cases in Laguna as of Wednesday, August 4.
The Inter-Agency Task Force issue a decision on August 5, regarding the community quarantine status of Calabarzon, according to a statement by Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
Laguna has been classed as MECQ, whereas Cavite, Rizal, and Lucena City have been reclassified as GCQ with heightened restrictions, and Batangas and Quezon have been reclassified as GCQ.
