TAYTAY, Rizal - On August 6, the Mayors' League of Rizal Province petitioned Dr. Eduardo C. Janairo, Director of the Department of Health (DOH) Region IV-A.
The mayors stated in a letter that the vaccine supply was insufficient for the population of their respective towns.
“In a meeting called for such purpose, we have agreed to ask the Department of Health if it is possible to have an equitable and proportionate distribution among our towns based on available data, one of which is population,” the letter said.
“Attached to this letter is the latest distribution which we feel is not in accordance with the above-mentioned criteria [populasyon],” he added.
The letter was signed by Mayor Cesar Ynares of Binangonan, Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon of Angono and Mayor Katherine Robles of Baras.
Taytay Mayor Joric Gacula recently requested an increase in vaccine supply after the DOH released the allocation for their 3,000 vaccines. Taytay is the country's second most populous municipality.
In the mayor's Facebook post on August 5, he shared the vaccine allocation in Rizal province and found only 3,000 for their town that are not compatible with their population.
“Alam nating lahat na mayroong kakulangan at kabagalan sa pagdating ng supply ng bakuna. Ngunit kung iisipin nating mabuti, hindi sasapat sa dami ng mamamayan ng Taytay ang kakarampot na bilang ng bakunang dumarating,” Gacula said.
Taytay is the second most populous municipality in the Philippines, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority's 2020 Census Report.
Rodriguez (Montalban) is the most populous municipality with 443,954, followed by Taytay with 386,451, and followed by Cainta with 376,933.
Both Rodriguez and Cainta towns have 11,000 or more vaccines available.
“Nananawagan kaming dagdagan ng DOH ang bakunang inilalaan para sa ating bayan. Handa po kami. Nakahanda ang aming storage facilities, mga vaccination centers, at lahat ng healthcare workers para sa pagbabakuna,” he added.
