To commemorate former President Manuel Luis Quezon's 143rd birthday, Sinag Quezon, a non-partisan youth organization, will hold a historical webinar and virtual contest called BaliKwentuhan on August 19, 2021, in collaboration with various organizations and government agencies.
This year’s theme is dubbed, “BaliKwentuhan: Legasiya’t Liderato ni Quezon sa Bayan” which honors his legacy and leadership. Distinguished speakers including writer Manuel “Manolo” Quezon III, historian Prof. Xiao Chua, and actor Raymond Bagatsing will highlight topics from his life and political career, as well as explain the historical context in which he emerged as the Philippines' leader.
“Manuel L. Quezon is one of the most important figures in Philippine history. As a youth, paying tribute and recognizing his leadership and legacy means emulating his bravery and humanity in the present society, ” Kizar Fabie, one of the project heads, said.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization will provide an online platform for the Filipinos to render homage to the memory of the President of the Philippine Commonwealth and “Ama ng Wikang Pambansa”.
“It is significant to shed light on his role and relevance in the daily lives of Filipinos. Through this commemoration, we will have a deeper understanding of his contributions and gain information from the discussion,” he added.
Aside from the webinar, virtual contests such as Digital Poster and Infomercial Video will happen, free of charge. Those interested to join may create a digital poster showcasing their version of Manuel Quezon in the modern generation. They can also participate by submitting an informative one to two-minute video about the interesting facts about his legacy and leadership.
Watch out for the participants’ entries from the asynchronous competitions on August 14-15, 2021. You can catch Sinag Quezon’s main live event on August 19, 2021, from 1:00-6:00 pm via its official Facebook page and Zoom.
