BATANGAS CITY - September 7, 2021, the Batangas Provincial Government, led by the Provincial Veterinary Office (ProVet), launched the pig dispersal project in areas of the province declared safe from African Swine Fever (ASF) or ASF-free.
The purpose of the project is to give a fresh start to the estimated 720 pig farmers in towns and cities where no cases of ASF have been reported.
Piglets will be distributed to 60 pig farmers in each town, including Lipa City and the towns of Taysan, San Jose, Nasugbu, Rosario, and Malvar. The Department of Agriculture's Livestock Division will also provide them with feeds, disinfectants, dewormers, and vitamins.
Dr. Rommel Marasigan, the Provincial Veterinarian, stated that there is nothing left in the resurgence of the pig rearing industry in Batangas, and that Gov. DoDo Mandanas and the entire provincial government fully support the Batangueo hog farmers. One of the governor's priorities, he said, is to improve the quality of livestock in the province.
The pork recipients, on the other hand, were grateful for giving them hope that they would be able to recover from the loss of their jobs. They also stated that they will continue to implement Bantay ASF in their respective areas and will continue to support all provincial government activities.
The International Training Center on Pig Husbandry (ITC-PH), based in Lipa City, previously declared Batangas Province to be the first in the Philippines to be ASF-free, after 16 months of implementing measures to eradicate the swine disease.
ASF has had a significant impact on the province's hog industry, which is the country's second-largest hog producer.
