Batangas City — The 25 crew members of St. Anthony de Padua, a roll-on-roll-off cargo vessel operated by 2GO, who have been quarantined aboard the ship after testing positive of Covid-19 are recovering from symptoms, a vessel official said.
Larsen Padua, 2Go’s Chief for Safety Operations and Designated Person Ashore, said most patients’ previous mild symptoms have disappeared while two cases are with diminishing cough.
“We are preparing for a stand-down facility where our patients will remain once they are released from quarantine aboard the ship,” Padua said.
At least 21 other crew members who are working as support personnel aboard the vessel were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday, August 15 and were found negative of the virus.
“These personnel are with high-risk exposure as they work with our doctor on board in checking on the patients’ health conditions,” Padua added.
He said after completing their quarantine on August 22, patients will be moved in another section of the vessel until they are given a clearance to disembark and move to an accredited facility.
He added key personnel will stay aboard and help in the vessel’s operation while those with complete clearance will be moved in another facility until they can return to their homes.
Replenishment of potable water and other essential supplies for the vessel and crew members began last Saturday, August 14.
The Calabarzon Regional Task Force against Covid-19 has been in close coordination with the vessel’s officials since early last week to handle medical concerns and ensure the control of the virus.
The vessel arrived in Batangas on August 7 from Caticlan in Malay, Aklan and has been off the waters of Bauan since. — MCA-PIA Batangas
