Jaz Reyez is a Filipino Creator who produced her interpretation of fashion into a manipulated materials including the iconic BTS MEAL of Mcdonald’s that the packaging of the nugget meal is turned into a Dior baguette, it is for real-cut out of the bag. Not only because of that she caught some commentaries, from the start she already showcases her witty talent using digital edits combining with solid mediums that goes well in her feed and her personality.
Her Instagram is a flow of fashion, message, and humorous beauty of truth. The aesthetically witty behind these pleasing images grounds some truths even touches some political ick that is directly correct. Her art is funny yet one of a kind that makes sense to be out there in a “fashion and art” world.
Her feed connects to the higher ground of Instagram because of its colors coordinating to show clean high-quality photos but the message is from below and above. My favorite takeaway from Jaz’s works is when she posted this cool semi-gif video of Famous Books, she replaces the keywords from these Books into quarantine reflective happenings like “The subtle art of not giving a Mass testing” etc. I also love how she copies influencers “unboxing” of designer’s items with videos and all, but in the end, just flexing the comedy bag she made, but then again un-purposely making it so finesse. She holds another button of funny with standing opinions behind her work, an all-in-own artist. One of her uploads reaches Elle Hongkong Magazine, Dazed Magazine, Preview Magazine, and more.
Her art is toward a craft of seeing the maneuver of things differently and I think we need a dose of that each day. Stuck in quarantine will make you feel cornered with nothing else to see but she proved that ideas float everywhere, if we are just taking out our time wasted in saying it is nowhere to be found. I guess this artist is a pioneer of being differently relevant.
Jaz Reyes is also a radio Dj here in the Philippines. That finished the puzzle of being outspoken yet timing-ly doing it “subtle” and with high manners. Her brave art is a great move into using her influencing chair to put pressure into something hard to throw out there. We need more from her to not comfort the comfortable and somehow reach a bigger audience that should bother the unalterable. That’s why through art you can do the gimmicks of what could be and what should be.
Her feed brightens somebody’s days; she gains a lot of connections to other people and I wish more Artists like her would involve a lot of people in their art nowadays. It doesn’t have to be deep, dark, and sad to always connect, sometimes we pick up our unbearable truths into comedic turns in this life to create beauty out of it and make something to connect.
Because it is what we need these days; some unserious ways of releasing vents. Her name is encouragingly open to let other people get to know, because of her endless funny Pinterest-worthy Images on Instagram @_jazreyes. You can have a glimpse of a line between “ you can bring joy in every possible medium” plus using creativity on the same page.
A real influencer now is not about always doing pranks or comedic content, it also should have an allowance of awareness; yet delivered precisely, that bigger problems can be translated into simple art that needs simple action; being human.
