Floods hit CALABARZON due to 'Jolina'

CALABARZON - Several low-lying areas in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) experienced flooding on September 8 due to non-stop rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Jolina (international name Conson) Wednesday.

Hurricane Kiko or Chanthu is considered a Category 5 Super Typhoon by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the United States and now has very strong winds reaching 260 kilometers per hour.

Areas in Cavite, Rizal and Laguna experienced knee -deep flooding along with power outages. While some areas in Batangas and Quezon experienced higher floods and landslides causing many residents to be evacuated.

So far there is no full report on how much damage has been done to the region by the direct passage of such a typhoon.

Manila Electric Co. said. (Meralco) on Wednesday that about 270,000 of its consumers, mostly from the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Cavite, were affected due to power outages in the southern part of their franchise area.

In a media advisory, Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco spokesman and Vice President for Corporate Communications said that, "outages occurred in the southern part of its franchise due to severe tropical storm 'Jolina'."

"As of 12 noon, the weather disturbance still affected around 270,000 customers. Majority of these are from the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Cavite," he added.

Zaldarriaga assured customers that Meralco personnel will continue working to restore power flow as soon as possible.
