LUCBAN, Quezon - As we begin Tourism Month, "Bagong Mukha, Bagong Likha," a Lucban Artists Guild Art Exhibit featuring Quezon's Female-Artists, opened.

The Pambayang Galerya ng Sining was finally launched last August 19 by the Lucban local government, due to the efforts of Mayor Celso Olivier T. Dator, Tourism Officer Maria Jenifer L. Babat, and the Lucban Artists Guild.

Its mission is to support local artists in Lucban, to continuously preserve culture and traditions, and to promote the advocacy "Art in Tourism, Tourism in Art."

Tourism Month is observed in September each year to highlight the Philippines' diverse tourism offerings as well as the sector's significant contribution to the country's economy. The theme for World Tourism Day celebrations in 2021 is “tourism for inclusive growth,” according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

“Art tourism is a collaboration between culture and the tourism industry that focuses on enhancing what makes a community unique. An area's heritage, artistic and cultural life can attract tourists while also improving the quality of life for those who live there.” Babat said.

On September 5, the first LAG art exhibit, “Bagong Mukha, Bagong Likha,” was held, featuring Quezon's all-female artists, each with their own style and art expression, and each with a different story to tell.

“Mga babae. Inihahayag ang katotohanan at biyaya ng buhay. Lumilikha ng kagandahang salamin at sining ng liwanag at dilim. Binibigkis ang matayog na pangarap upang isilang ang bagong mundo ng mapayapang kapatiran.” said Allyza Tresvallez & Amae Paruan, members of Lucban Artists Guild.

Mikee Garcia hosted the launching program and gave a stupendous spoken word poetry performance that amazed the audience. Councilor Marife V. Hari led the opening prayer, Sir Mark Babia, Ma’am Jen Babat, Ms Maria Abulencia gave their messages. While Ms Teena Octaviano introduced the artist-participants namely, Maria Lourdes Abulencia, Evalor Velux-Teope, Amae Abadilla Paruan, Karen Hernandez Abril, Agatha Brenica Durana-Ilagan, Iris Sigrid, Marie Meg De Jesus, Claudine Alexa Villaverde, Alyssa Reynales, Khen-Khen Saludes, and Allyza Tresvalles.

The exhibition will run until September 17, 2021 at Pambayang Galerya ng Sining in Lucban, Quezon. (with report from Lucban Municipal Tourism)
