LUCENA CITY - To assist farmers in Lucena City whose livelihoods were impacted by Typhoon Jolina, the City Government recently provided Typhoon Assistance through the Department of Agriculture's HVC Development Program.
Okra, sitaw, eggplant, chili, squash, and other seeds, as well as vegetable crops such as papaya, were distributed here.
Meanwhile, the national government has recently blessed more than 20 Lucenahin fishermen with assistance.
The distribution was also carried out in collaboration with the city government, via the City Agriculturist Office and the office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources or BFAR, as part of the said agency's Sagip Saka project.
Beneficiaries of the project included Mayao Crossing, Mayao Castillo, Mayao Parada, Mayao Silangan, Ibabang Dupay, Ibabang Iyam, Ibabang Talim, and Ilayang Talim.
Mark Alcala also stated that his father, Mayor Roderick “Dondon” Alcala, will continue to consider new ways and projects to assist those in the sector.
This distribution of tilapia fingerling to some Lucenahin fishermen is simply a scheme by the local government to help the mentioned range raise the standard of living of the city's fishermen.
There is also a desire to provide them with additional sources of income so that their lives can be more prosperous and fulfilling.
The primary goal of this activity is to assist city farmers, who are among those most impacted by a storm of this occurrence.
The City Agriculturist's office, led by City Agriculturist Mellissa Letargo, Executive Assistant and Youth Advocacy Ambassador Kuya Mark Alcala, and Councilor Americo 'Amer' Lacerna, spearheaded the distribution of said assistance to city vegetable and fruit farmers.
These programs was made possible with the help of the city government led by Mayor Roderick "Dondon" Alcala as well as the Department of Agriculture - Regional Executive Director Vilma Dimaculangan, RTD Dennis Arpia and Engr. Redelliza Gruezo, HVC-DP Regional Coordinator and Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer Rolly Cuasay.
The beneficiaries received the mentioned agricultural inputs and fingerlings in order to restart and grow the City's agricultural sector.
