BARAS, Rizal — Farmers in Madilay-dilay, Tanay, have received P 970,000 in farming equipment from the Department of Agrarian Reform-Rizal.
DAR Secretary John Castriciones spearheaded the handover of equipment to Madilay-dilay Agrarian Reform Cooperative (MARC) on September 17 in Barangay Pinugay, Baras, Rizal, as part of the agency's Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Program.
A hand tractor, multi-cultivator, biomass shredder, soil test kit, machine driven and manual knapsack sprayers, pressurized power sprayers, fertilizer applicators, and brush cutters are among the items mentioned.
Sec. Castriciones handed over the first batch of equipment to MARC President and concurrent OIC Barangay Madilay-dilay chair Gregorio Manalo.
The 72-member farmers group presently grows pineapples, but once the machinery arrives, they plan to switch to growing pechay, mustasa, sitaw, and other vegetables.
Prior to its formation as a separate barrio in September 2018, Madilay-dilay was a sitio of Barangay Sampaloc in Tanay.
Manalo recalls the deep origins of farming in Madilay-dilay, despite the fact that MARC was founded before the sitio's independence from Tanay in 2016.
“Even before I was born, people in our community were already farming,” Manalo stated.
The coop is grateful, according to Manalo, because the DAR help is the first time the organization has gotten government machinery assistance.
He goes on to say that before the technology, MARC farmers relied heavily on manual effort and the use of carabaos for farming activities.
“From what I can see the future is bright with the equipment which will be given to us since a lot of us want to farm but do not have the equipment to do it,” he said.
During the turnover ceremony, DAR awarded the first batch of equipment, with the other equipment to follow.
