BATANGAS CITY - The Department of Science and Technology- Region 4A and Batangas State University signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the initial implementation of the Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC) in Calabarzon on October 7. 2021.

RIIC is one of the foundations of the 2018 Inclusive Filipinnovation and Entrepreneurship Roadmap which is expected to strengthen capacity for innovation and promote inclusive economic growth in the country.

It is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and DOST as well as by USAID Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development (STRIDE).

Under the Grants-in-Aid program, DOST 4A will provide P1.4M funding to strengthen RIIC’s operations in Calabarzon including supporting the Kapeng Barako sector, establishing a Business Innovation Unit under BatStateU Knowledge, Innovation and Science and Teschnology (KIST) Park and other innovation -related programs.

The Business Innovation Unit aims to serve as a one-stop-shop for prospective innovators in the region who aim to enhance and grow innovation programs and related services as well as research and development outputs to micro-small and medium enterprises (MSMEs. ).

DOST 4A Regional Director Emelita Bagsit and Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations Francisco Barquilla led the signing along with BatStateU President Dr. Tirso Ronquillo and Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Services Engr. Albertson Amante.

The establishment of Calabarzon RIIC in December 2020 came with the approval of the Regional Development Council (RDC) of which main agencies are DOST 4A and DTI 4A partnering with BatStateU as the main academe institution and lead implementer.

Ito ang first phase ng implementasyon ng proyekto at inaasahang magdudulot pa ito ng mas maraming inobasyon sa buong rehiyon.

This is the first phase of project implementation and it is expected to bring even more innovations throughout the region.

Meanwhile, the ceremonial awarding of the grant was held on October 19 where the official brand LINC Calabarzon or “Linking Innovation Networksfor Competitiveness in Calabarzon” was launched. - Bhaby P. De Castro, PIA Batangas
