BATANGAS CITY — On October 29, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region IV-A led the Indigenous People Month celebration with the theme "Katutubong Pilipino: Atin ang Tagumpay."
Its goal is to raise public awareness about the vibrant culture of indigenous peoples and to provide them with opportunities to showcase their talents.
According to Social Welfare IV-A Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo's message, their office will continue to support the agencies and local governments that care for the country's indigenous people.
The Sama-Bajau group from barangays Malitam, Wawa and Libjo in Batangas City as well as the group from Lucena City joined in the virtual celebration.
The event featured a video cultural presentation contest that introduced the culture of ethnic groups as well as a poster making contest participated by the youth of sama-badjau where the Sama-Bajau Malitam Group won as best Cultural Presentation. (with report from Batangas City PIO)
