SILANG, Cavite — The Department of Agriculture (DA) headed by Secretary William D. Dar led the awarding and distribution of agricultural interventions activity on Tuesday, November 9 at the Cavite State University (CavSU) – Silang covered court.
More than a year after the Taal Volcano erupted on January 12, 2020, the DA thru its Calabarzon regional office had continuously supported the fisherfolks and farmers in Cavite that were heavily affected by the natural disaster with P 176M funds allocated for the province under the Taal Rehabilitation and Recovery Program.
During the event, DA Secretary William D. Dar awarded P144.5M of the funds to the province with a certificate of the grant received by Provincial Administrator Alvin Mojica.
A total of 103 farmers’ associations or 6,384 registered farmers in 12 cities and municipalities in the province benefit from the program with their representatives receiving the certificates during the event.
The beneficiaries were from the cities of Dasmariñas with 12 farmers’ associations, 517 farmers; General Trias with 7 farmers’ associations, 316 farmers; Tagaytay city with 9 farmers’ associations, 269 farmers; Trece Martires with 3 associations, 400 farmers; and the from the municipalities of Silang with 11 farmers’ associations, 1,417 farmers; Amadeo with 10 associations, 274 farmers; Alfonso with 7 associations, 492 farmers; Gen. Emiio Aguinaldo with 9 associations, 1,045 farmers; Magallanes with 11 associations, 557 farmers; Mendez with 4 associations, 174 farmers; Indang with more than 20 farmers’ associations, 900 farmers; and Maragondon with 35 farmers.
Aside from the grant given to the province, Secretary Dar disclosed that P 7M will be given to the Cavite State University in aims to strengthen the partnership of the department with the university and support the projects that focus on agriculture.
“Dapat nating suportahan ang university (CavSU) kase nandito ang mga magagaling at eksperto sa agrikultura,” stated Sec. Dar.

The P7 million grant to the university is allocated for: the establishment of fruit trees scion group to breed all important fruit trees in Cavite as well as in Calabarzon with a P2 million fund allocated; support the upgrade of the tissue culture laboratory to cleanse the different plant varieties and produce healthy crops to be given P3 million funds; and gave one (1) unit 45Hp tractor worth P 2M to be used for the preparation of the experimental land area.
