TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Before demolition operations begin this November, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) jointly issued a Notice of Demolition to the owners of illegal fishing structures in the waters off Cavite City.
According to the DENR, the dismantling of illegal fishing structures will take place from November 4 to 6, 2021, and will be led by the Manila Bay Inter-Agency Task Force for a clearing operation in the said waters, particularly in the 'saprahan.'
“We encourage the owners of such structures to carry out “self-clearing” or voluntary removal of their respective structures before November 4 or the scheduled “clearing operations,” DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said over a telephone interview.
“Sayang kase yung kawayan, ilaw and generator sets, mapapakinabangan pa nila yan. Kapag kame na nagtanggal o nagbaklas nyan mga trash traps, wala na sila papakinabangan dyan, kasi we use that as evidences,” added Usec Antiporda.
The DENR official reminded that for ‘baklads’ and ‘tahungans’, locals still need to secure permits from their respective LGUs in Bacoor, Noveleta, Kawit, and Cavite City to ensure that their operations are legal.
The demolition activity is in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court under the writ of continuing mandamus mandating government agencies to clean up, conduct rehabilitation, preserve and restore and maintain water quality in Manila Bay. (with reports from Dennis Abrina)
