IMUS CITY, Cavite — With vaccination efforts in full force under the ‘Bida ang may Bakuna’ vaccination program, the city government of Imus is expecting to inoculate its target population and achieve herd immunity by end of November 2021.
According to Imus City Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi’s report, the current rate of vaccine distribution exceeds the daily target of 3,700 Covid-19 vaccine jabs achieved through the five different vaccination sites used for the vaccination rollout.
“In fact, we are able to distribute 5,000 – 6,500 jabs every day,” Mayor Maliksi said.
In its recent vaccination update, the city government said a total of 391,026 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to city residents belonging to eligible priority groups with over 200,000 recipients of the first dose and 178,475 with complete doses.
Maliksi cited the strategy to ‘go sectoral’ which intensified the coordination and information dissemination by sector and made it much easier to expedite the process for the vaccination of the eligible members of each sector.
These figures placed the city first in ranking in the entire province as well as in the whole Calabarzon region in terms of distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.
With the continued rate of vaccine distribution in all vaccination sites, and the opening of a fixed vaccination site in Robinson’s Place-Imus, herd immunity is likely to be achieved by end of November thus, the city government plans to welcome “vaccinees” from other towns and cities by middle of November.
Likewise, these initiatives had somehow contributed to the downward trend in the number of active cases recorded since the start of the month of October.
From a total of more than 2,600 active Covid-19 cases during the month of September, the total number of active infections as of October 28 is at 589. The number of daily new Covid-19 infections further slowed down as it logged 40 to 60 daily average of new cases this month. — Ruel Francisco, PIA Cavite
