CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Following the successful pilot rollout in San Pablo City, several other local government units in Laguna have started vaccinating their pediatric population in a bid to give minors aged 12 to 17 years an added protection against Covid-19.

Santa Rosa City, which kicked off its pediatric vaccination drive on November 3, started accomodating the pediatric A3 group or those with comorbidities in its four vaccination centers including The Medical City South Luzon, Qualimed Santa Rosa, New Sinai MDI, and the Santa Rosa Community Hospital.

According to the city government, they also began the vaccination drive for minors without comorbidities on Friday. It said there were no recorded adverse effects from at least 500 minors who received the first shot of their Covid-19 vaccine during the vaccination rollout.

Biñan City also started rolling out the citywide vaccination program for minors belonging to the A3 group on Friday at the Unihealth Southwoods vaccination center. Mayor Arman Dimaguila urged parents to have their children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 years old vaccinated against Covid-19 as they allocate more vaccines in the coming days.

The municipality of Los Baños also joined Santa Rosa City and Biñan City in commencing their vaccination program for the pediatric population. On Friday, November 5, its vaccination hub located at the University of the Philippines Los Baños started inoculating eligible minors of the A3 group.

Calamba City meanwhile, started inoculating minors on Saturday, November 6 at the Paseo De Uno Calamba vaccination hub with at least 1,000 minors aged 12 to 17 vaccinated with the first shot of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

San Pablo City, the first LGU in Laguna to inoculate minors continues its vaccination drive as they target to vaccinate the 33,000 pediatric population in the city before the year ends.

Online registration for the pediatric vaccination in these LGUs is ongoing as they target to achieve herd immunity by December 2021.

The Department of Health (DOH) Region 4A earlier urged parents to sign up their kids for the vaccination program especially those with underlying medical conditions and at risk of severe Covid-19.

The DOH 4A said children must be accompanied by the parent or guardian at the vaccination site.

Parents can only choose between Pfizer and Moderna as the only vaccines approved by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration for children aged 12-17 years. — FC, PIA4A
