SBDP infra projects break ground in Calaca
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Calabarzon led the groundbreaking of various projects amounting to P20 million under the flagship program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, in a bid to bring development programs and government services closer to insurgency cleared barangays in the region.

BATANGAS CITY — Residents in Barangay Taklang Anak in Calaca town will soon benefit from six government infrastructure and livelihood programs under the Local Government Support Fund-Support to Barangay Development Plan.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Calabarzon led the groundbreaking of various projects amounting to P20 million under the flagship program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, in a bid to bring development programs and government services closer to insurgency cleared barangays in the region.

As one of the three barangays in Calaca included in the SBDP Program, the infrastructure project in Barangay Taklang will include the rehabilitation and upgrading of Taklang Anak Road, solar panel street lights, two-storey health station which includes its own isolation facility, one storey-two classroom building.

Welfare programs such as the cash-for-work for 500 heads of households, and training on farm tractor operation and crop processing were also provided for the residents in the mainly agricultural community.

Chairman Lolita Lirac said their sangguninang barangay helped identify the projects where the P20 million fund from the SBDP to provide the needs of their residents.

“Ito po ay napakalaking tulong at malaki ang aming pasasalamat sa ating pamahalaan sa tulong na inyong ibinigay,” said Lirac as she thanked the RTF-ELCAC for the programs given to their barangay.

Pangulong Lirac—as the residents call her, said their barangay used to be identified as a haven for rebel groups.

According to the DILG, nine other barangays in the municipalities of Tuy, Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, and Balayan will also benefit from developmental programs under the SBDP fund.

DILG Calabarzon Regional Director Ariel Iglesia said a total of 30 barangays in the entire region received their SBDP benefits this year alone.

Each barangay received development projects worth P20-M, which they chose from a list of programs the SBDP offers to insurgency-cleared barangays.

“Ang mga programang ito ay dumaan sa pag-aaral, sa tulong ng mga miyembro ng Task Force. Isa lamang ito sa mga proyektong isinasagawa sa ating bansa,” Iglesia said, emphasizing the program as a part of the government’s lifelong goal to foster peace in communities, especially in towns located in remote parts of the region.

Meanwhile, the Interior chief reminded the local government that the national government will monitor the implementation of these projects in their town.

“Ito ang isang paraan upang masugpo natin ang ating matagal nang problema. Hindi kaya itong supuing ng armadong pakikipaglaban lamang. Sana ang ating pryoketo ay hindi lamang matatapos sa groundbreaking, at ito ay tuloy-tuloy na maipatupad,” Iglesia reminded the local officials present. (PB)
