LOPEZ, Quezon - Any cub reporter on the police beat would have torn his hair over the tangle of circumstances surrounding a rape, serious illegal detention and child abuse case against a candidate for the mayoralty post of Lopez, Quezon, municipal councilor Arkie Manuel Ortiz-Yulde.
Reports have it Yulde's case is pending for trial at the Rosales, Pangasinan Regional Trial Court Branch 53.
A court directive paved for the transfer of the accused from a Quezon province detention facility to BJMP in Balungao, Pangasinan-- where Yulde is to be tried. Reports silent whether the accused has posted bail to allow him to engage in political campaign.
Reports added that Yulde is a political ally of incumbent Quezon governor Danilo Suarez-- and Suarez may have taken pains for the settlement of the case, allow his ally to go scot-free.
Suarez himself or any emissary would have sufficed to ask Yulde who the aggrieved rape victim was, locate her, and beg on their knees plus fork over a commensurate monetary sum for her to withdraw her charges against Yulde.
Reports said the governor has been slapped with administrative and criminal charges, including obstruction of justice, being accessory to child abuse, and violation of the provisions of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, before the Office of the Ombudsman.
Reports said certain men have taken an aunt of the rape victim from her Malabon home and brought to the Quezon provincial capitol where she met Suarez who, in turn, asked for her help for the Suarez ally to be unburdened of the rape charges.
All told, Suarez gets bad press that may hurt his bid for the governor's post in the 2022 polls.
