CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - Seven local governments in Laguna have passed laws and ordinances restricting the movement of unvaccinated people.
This comes as the number of active Covid-19 cases in the province has risen to 3,941 according to Laguna Provincial Health Office data.
According to a report by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 4A, these include the city government of Bian and the town governments of Los Baos, Kalayaan, Mabitac, Magdalena, Pagsanjan, and Pila.
The limitation on the release of unvaccinated individuals follows the Metro Manila Council's setting of an ordinance in this regard due to the experienced increase in Covid-19 cases, at the beginning of the year 2022.
In Biñan City, which recently issued their ordinance, those who have not been vaccinated are not allowed to leave unless they are buying essential necessities or services, or are going to work.
They will also not be allowed to dine in indoor and al fresco restaurants as well as inside malls, hotels, events, venues, sports venues and other similar facilities.
The ordinance also stipulates the prohibition of unvaccinated individuals on public transportation unless they are purchasing essential necessities or services, entering employment, or for medical needs.
The ordinance also states that workers who have not been fully vaccinated must present a negative RT-PCR or rapid antigen tes result every two weeks at their personal expense before being allowed to return to work.
Establishments found in violation will be fined P3,000 for the first violation, P5,000 and business permit suspension and temporary closure order for the second violation. About P5,000 and the cancellation of the business permit and closure order are awaiting the establishment for their third violation.
Unvaccinated individuals who fail to comply with the provisions of the ordinance for the first violation, P1,000 for the second violation, and P3,000 for the third violation will also be fined P500.
So far, the entire province of Laguna is still elevated to Alert Level 3 which will be in effect until January 31 based on the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid-19.
The Regional Task Force Against Covid-19 Calabarzon had earlier urged local governments in the region to adopt the Metro Manila Council resolution.
In total, 14 local governments across the region have implemented the same ordinance while 23 mayors have issued ordinances regarding such mobility restrictions for the unvaccinated. - PIA LAGUNA
