BATANGAS CITY - On January 17, the city government formed a Technical Working Group (TWG) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) to develop plans for the families of the fire victims in barangay Wawa.
This was discussed at today's meeting, which was presided over by Mayor Beverley Dimacuha.
There are currently 221 families affected by the fire, with 192 of them being Badjao families at Wawa Elementary School, which served as an evacuation center.
Some of the priorities of the TWG are the health of evacuees in particular their vaccination status, continuous food supply, cleanliness of the evacuation center and the strict implementation of health and safety protocols there.
The TWG will also make a plan so that the affected students can continue their education.
CSWDO, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), barangay Wawa leadership and other members of the camp management team will assist in managing the evacuation center.
They ensured that the evacuees were in good condition, had an adequate supply of food and that health and safety protocols against COVID-19 were implemented.
Many civic organizations and volunteer groups also donate for the fire victims.
During the meeting, Mayor Dimacuha also instructed other local government offices, particularly the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), to conduct electrical inspections especially in congested areas/barangays to ensure proper and safe connections. power line and prevent it from starting a fire.
"If you see a problem here, fix it immediately, so that it does not burn again, especially during the summer", Mayor Dimacuha stressed.
