SANTA ROSA CITY - The Santa Rosa city government is encouraging parents to register their children in the government’s Covid-19 vaccination program for children ages 5 to 11 years old.

In an official announcement from the city government, it announced that children belonging to the said age group can be registered through its vaccination portal: https://www.santarosacity.ph/SCVT/.

The priority includes vaccinating children belonging to pediatric A3 or children with comorbidities.

“Piliin lamang ang kategoryang pediatric A3 kung mayroong comorbidities ang bata o pediatric C kung walang sakit ang bata. Antabayanan lamang ang mga susunod pang anunsyo kung kailan sisimulan ang pagbabakuna para sa edad 5 hanggang 11,” the city government said in their Facebook post.

Pre-registration was launched to gather initial data on the number of children to be vaccinated in the city while still awaiting the corresponding guidelines from the Department of Health (DOH).

On December 23 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of a lower dosage vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech for vaccination in younger members of the pediatric population.

According to the FDA, the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has an efficacy rate of over 90-percent while its adverse effects are mild, based on clinical trials conducted.

So far, only vaccines manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna have been given emergency use authorization by the FDA for vaccination in youth ages 12 to 17 years.

At a recent meeting of the National Task Force and Regional Task Force Against Covid-19, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., announced that the government plans to begin vaccinating children aged 5 to 11 in the third week of January, depending on the arrival of vaccine supply.

At present, the city government is continuously conducting vaccinations for residents belonging to the adult population as well as minors aged 11 to 17 years.

It has also begun injecting booster shots for individuals who already have the complete vaccine, as added protection against various variants of Covid-19. (with reports from PIA LAGUNA)
