CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has completed checkpoints set up in various parts of Calabarzon to ensure order and security in advance of the upcoming 2022 national and local elections.
The official launch of the election checkpoint in Brgy. San Isidro in Rizal was led by Police Brigadier General Eliseo DC Cruz, regional director of the Police Regional Office Calabarzon, and Atty. Maria Juana Veleza is the regional director of the Commission on Elections for Region 4-A.
According to PRO Calabarzon, checkpoints were set up in other areas of the region at the same time to be guarded by uniformed police officers.
Also present at the launch were Philippine Army Second Infantry Division Commander Major General Rowen Tolentino and Rizal Police Provincial Police Director Colonel Dominic Bacay.
The purpose of the checkpoints is to apprehend individuals carrying firearms, explosives, and other weapons, in accordance with the existing election gun ban.
PRO Calabarzon added that it also aims to ensure the security of the public and candidates for the upcoming elections in May.
PRO Calabarzon, on the other hand, asked for the cooperation of the public and urged them to follow the implemented guidelines for the peaceful holding of the 2022 national and local elections.
Checkpoints will be conducted regularly until the last day of the election period on June 8, 2022, according to PRO Calabarzon. (with reports from PIA LAGUNA)
