CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — Commuters riding public utility buses in Laguna would need to present their vaccination card as several bus companies operating in the province and with routes plying to parts of the National Capital Region started implementing the ‘no vaccination card, no ride’ policy.
This comes after the Metro Manila Council imposed ‘enhanced mobility restrictions’ for unvaccinated individuals following the resurgence in new confirmed cases recorded in the different parts of NCR.
Under MMC Resolution 22-01, unvaccinated individuals are prohibited in domestic travel via public transportation by land, sea, and air except for the procurement of essential goods and services such as, but not limited to, food, water, medicine, medical devices, public utilities, and energy, work, and medical and dental necessities subject to the production of proof to support and justify such travel.
While there is no same policy prevails among local government units in Laguna, JAC Liner bus company in a statement said it took the initiative to require vaccination cards among the riding public to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant and ensure the safety of its passengers.
“In anticipation of requiring vaccination cards for the public transport sector and to further prevent the spread of the Omicron variant as well as to ensure the safety of our passengers and people, JAC Liner is already taking the initiative,” the bus company said in its Facebook page.
“We are requesting our dearest passengers to please present your vaccination card with ID picture (if none, please present any other ID to validate), to our conductors prior to boarding,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office Region 4A clarified that the Calabarzon region has not adopted such policy and would need approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force before it could be imposed on the general public.
JAC Liner and its sister company LLI Bus Company operates trips between Biñan City to Makati City as well as trips from Santa Cruz to Quezon City and vice versa.
The Regional Task Force Against Covid-19 Calabarzon earlier enjoined local government units in the region to adopt the measures of the Metro Manila Development Authority on unvaccinated individuals to contain the Covid-19 situation.
