BATANGAS CITY - With the start of the COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old in Batangas City on February 14, the theme of the SM City Batangas Event Center is circus-like.

Inside the vaccination area, there are mascots, jugglers, unicyclists, clowns, and life-size robots to entertain the children and lessen their fear of being vaccinated.

They are from 12 barangays scheduled to be vaccinated today.

Pfizer is the brand of vaccine that will be provided to them because according to the DOH, it is the only one with Emergency Use Authorization and approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States and our country.

There are also two doses of which the second will be given after 21 days.

The DOH stressed that the vaccines to be injected into children are special and modified.

It is not as much as the dosage injected in adults because it is made only for the age bracket intended for it.

According to Batangas City Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Carmelita Barrion CHO targets to vaccinate about 44,000 youth in the city.

“May 1,500 na mga bata ang target na mabakunahan ngayong araw at inaasahan natin na dadami pa ang magpapabakuna dahil sa maigting nating kampanya sa magandang epekto ng vaccines sa mga kabataan,” said Dra. Barrion.

He said SM City Batangas was their choice as the vaccination site because it was the first to signify to be their partner in this work.

The management of the mall gladly accepted this responsibility as an aid to the city government to fight COVID19.

Meanwhile, Mayor Beverley Rose Dimacuha and Cong. Marvey Marino with the Green Team as they visit the vaccination site.

Mayor Dimacuha is very happy with the number of children who want to be vaccinated as well as the support of their parents.

“Napakaganda ng feedback na natatanggap natin hinggil sa mga vaccines, lalo na sa mga kabataan. Noong magsimula tayong magroll-out ng bakuna, ang laki ng ibinaba ng mga fatalities hindi lamang sa Batangas City kundi maging sa buong bansa,” (with reports from PIO Batangas City)
