TANAY, Rizal - Three Tanay, Rizal policemen were arrested for allegedly attempting to extort money from a man they arrested for allegedly possessing illegal drugs.
The officers were identified as Police Master Sgt Darlino Casamayor Jr, Police Corporal William Sayago, and Pat Allen Bey Tendilla, all of whom were assigned to the Tanay Municipal Police Station's Intelligence/Drug Enforcement Team.
According to Gen Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the operation that resulted in the arrest of three policemen was based on the complaint of 31-year-old Aljon Marcelino Indon.
Indon was detained by the suspects on March 17 for allegedly violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, according to the report.
While inside the police station, the three policemen allegedly asked the contents of his pocket where he showed them more than P93,000.
“At this juncture, the suspects allegedly made an arrangement with Indon and due to fear of being charged for violation of RA 9165, he opted to give the money in exchange for his freedom. Indon, however, requested for a small amount of the said money where the suspects, after giving him P23,000, released him,” said Carlos.
Indon sought help at the Tanay Municipal Police Station which resulted in the arrest of the suspects. P49,000 cash was recovered from them.
“The PNP does not tolerate and condemn any member of the organization who transgresses the law and gets involved in illegal activities. We will see to it that all errant police personnel will be sanctioned accordingly and shall face dismissal from police service after accorded them with due process,” Carlos added.
