Importance of water discussed at the World Water Day symposium

BATANGAS CITY - In conjunction with World Water Day on March 24, the City Environment Office (City ENRO) hosted a symposium at Bahay Kaalaman - Batangas National Highschool to further promote the importance of water and ways to conserve it.

The event, themed "Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible," was co-hosted by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PICE).



Oliver Gonzales, City Environment Officer, reported on the city's water situation, specifically the status of ground water and its sources.

He also shared the projects being carried out by their office such as Hydrogeologic Characterization of the city specifically in the watershed of Calumpang River and Tinga Falls which started in December 2021 and will end in May 2022.



He also mentioned the plan to build constructed treatment wetlands for livestock wastes where Batangas City is expected to be the first city to use a natural treatment system.

Mayor Beverley Dimacuha also sent a message in which she emphasized the city's water resilient city status.



PICE President Engr. Albert Samuel the Philippine Water situation or the water availability and water sustainability of the country.

He also mentioned water resource problems and the advocacies of the Water Alliance.

He stressed that with simple methods, everyone can do something to solve water scarcity or lack of water supply.

Water demand management as well as ways to save water were explained by Eng David Andrew Fernandez of Maynilad.

PICE will also help to reduce the water demand of individuals, facilities and organizations in the city using innovative programs, strategies and technologies.

About 30 participants attended the symposium and more than 100 joined it via zoom app.
