LUCENA CITY - On March 25, this year, the City Evacuation Center in Barangay Mayao Crossing was formally turned over to the City Government of Lucena.
This was fulfilled through a simple ceremony attended by City Administrator Anacleto Alcala Jr., as a representative of Mayor Roderick Dondon Alcala, and several members of the Lucena City Disaster Management Council (LCDRRMC).
The evacuation center is a "multi-purpose facility" that can be used during any disaster and has a capacity of five hundred (500) people or one hundred and six (106) families.
He said this is a project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Department of Education (DEPED), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Department of Environment. and Natural Resources (DENR).
He said the evacuation center will cost Php 35.4 million and can also be turned into an office and venue for various City Government programs.
City Administrator Anacleto Alcala Jr., along with Ms. Janet Gendrano is the chief of Lucena DRRMO, translating its administration by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Lucena City Government and DPWH.
Witnesses to the said signing were: Dr. Ramir Cruz, DOH Region IV-A; Engr. Marc Vincent Martin, DPWH IV-A; Mr. Marielle Omambac, DSWD IV-A; and, Ma. Theresa R. Escolano, Office Civil Defense IV-A Regional Director and RDRRMC Chairperson.
After the signing of the agreement, an inspection of the facility was conducted under the leadership of RDRRMC Chairperson Dir. Ma. Theresa R. Escolano, MNSA.
It will be recalled that its construction began on September 30, 2019 and was completed a year later but the translation to the local government was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (with reports from PIO Lucena/K.Monfero)
