BATANGAS CITY - The city government is beginning to draft a Local Energy Plan (LEP) which is a simpler version of the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) that is expected to be a “transformational plan” for cleaner energy fuel and technology over the next two decades.

The LEP is also an integrated energy roadmap which includes the programs of a local government such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation, resilience and others.

In this regard, the USAID-Energy Secure Plan (ESP) in collaboration with the Department of Energy and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) conducted an Orientation-Workshop on Formulating The Local Energy Plan on March 31.

It aims to inform the Philippine energy goals, programs and policies and the role of local government units (LGUs) so that it can be achieved as well as to have adequate knowledge about the institutional mechanisms that will support its development. .

The workshop also seeks to learn about the best practices of other LGUs and study possible collaboration for better energy planning and management.

City ENRO Oliver Gonzales stressed that through such a workshop will be able to develop a framework and collect the necessary data to form the city's LEP.

“Ito ay una pa lamang sa posibleng series of workshop para mabuo ang LEP at masigurong compliant tayo sa RA 11285, The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act,” Gonzales said.

The orientation was attended by representatives from various local government departments.

Batangas City is one of the first LGUs in the country to be part of the said project. (with reports from PIO Batangas City)
