CARMONA, Cavite - To prevent the garbage from drifting into Manila Bay, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON will continue to conduct clean-up drives in the region's rivers.
A recent river clean up conducted by the Manila Bay City Coordinating Management Office No. 4 (MBSCMO4) and the Cavite Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Barangays Malagasang II-B and II-C in Imus City, Cavite, where the agency has collected 2,500 kilos of non-perishable, biodegradable, and residual waste in approximately 250 meters of the river.
According to For. Raymund Mercucio, Assistant to the Regional Deputy Coordinator of MBSCMO4, the clean-up drives conducted as part of the Month of the Ocean celebration, prevent the flow of garbage into Manila Bay from the said rivers.
Assistant Regional Director for Special Concerns Jose Elmer C. Bascos said that this type of work will continue to achieve the desired SB level of Manila Bay.
The SB level is under DENR Administrative Order No. 2021-19 is the condition in which it can swim, bathe and host other activities related to leisure.
About 60 people comprising officials of Barangays Malagasang II-B and II-C participated in the said program.
Those who participated in the clean-up drive also included workers of the City ENR office of Imus, members of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the said Barangays, and some employees of the Provincial Government ENR Office of Cavite, Department of Interior and Local Government.
