ANTIPOLO CITY - A World War II-era hand grenade recently caused concern in Sitio Kapatagan, Barangay Pinugay, Baras, Rizal.
According to the Rizal Provincial Office, three (3) suspected World War II bombs were discovered in two different towns.
Rizal Provincial Office said a resident named John Carlo Bardel, the son of a farmer, discovered two (2) Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXO) while cutting down a banana tree.
His father immediately drove him to their house and called the Baras Municipal Police Station.
In the initial investigation by the Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit (PECU-Rizal), the suspected bombs were two mortars measuring 81 mm.
Meanwhile, a bomb believed to be 80mm in size was found by a grab driver Eduard Castillo in San Mateo.
He said he saw it in a vacant lot in Pulang Lupa, Buntong Palay, Barangay Silangan, San Mateo, Rizal.
The suspected bombs are now in a safe area and are undergoing the corresponding investigation by the provincial explosives and canine unit.
