LUCENA CITY - On April 18, 2022, just three weeks before the May 9 election, Sentinel Times organized Quezon Balitaktakan, a virtual forum for aspiring Mayoralty and Congressional candidates to highlight and discuss their platforms and initiatives for the City of Lucena and Quezon Province.
Sentinel Times, a private news and media company headed by Ms. Ma Nimfa Estrellado, collaborated with various organizations and leading premier media organizations, entities, news, and media companies to create the virtual forum, which was co-presented by The Manila Times, a national daily newspaper in the Philippines that delivers trusted, quality content in print and digital editions.
The overall goal of Quezon Balitaktakan is to encourage citizens' informed and active participation in their government. Its main objective is to inform the public, motivate voters to vote, provide them with the opportunity to hear the candidates' perspectives in their respective cities, and assist them in making an informed choice on their ballots.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) affirmed that the debates are a "door" that allows the public to access the candidates' hearts and minds.
Ronald Asia, also known as Dj Roni, and Jeya AE, also known as Dj Jeya, the prime time radio disk jockeys of Spirit FM Lucena and event hosts of Quezon Province, hosted Quezon Balitaktakan, where the two radio personalities filled the room with so much energy and positivity with the help of Ms. Belinda Otordoz of The Manila Times as the virtual forum moderator.
Mayoral candidates Deric Castillo and Romano Talaga, as well as Congressional candidates Abigail Jashael Bagabaldo and Nebuchadnezzar Salamat Alejandrino, attended the event while the others were unable to due to scheduling conflicts with the virtual forum.
In 90 seconds, each candidate answered the panelists' questions honestly and fairly.
It was also clear that Board Member and Mayoralty Candidate Romano Talaga shared his platform for a pandemic recovery plan, whereas Mayoralty Candidate Deric Castillo wants to promote local MSMEs (MSMEs).
Meanwhile, congressional candidates Ms. Abigail Jashael Bagabaldo and Mr. Nebuchadnezzar Salamat Alejandrino briefly answered the panelists' questions on education, technology, pandemic, agriculture, livelihood, and budget.
One audience member commented on the candidates' responses, pointing out that they were all clear and respectful of one another's answers.
Following the event's success, The Sentinel Times thanked all individuals and organizations who devoted their time, energy, and effort to the Quezon Balitaktakan's success.
They thanked everyone who helped with the five-month planning and execution process, particularly their media partners, The Manila Times, Spirit FM Lucena, Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc., Cool 101.5, Boses ng Barangay, and Eyewatch.
