ANGONO, Rizal - Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon and Diocesan Shrine of Saint Clement rector and parish priest Father Eymard Balatbat graces the inaguration of patron's image of San Clemente, the town patron saint, to the public.

It was held at Wawa Lakeside Park, Brgy. San Vicente, this Sunday afternoon, May 22, 2022.

On November 23, the town and San Clemente's—the patron saint of fishermen, miners, sailors, and travelers—the Pagoda or fluvial procession begins in Wawa.

The program is part of the celebration of the Angono church's dedication as the Diocesan Shrine of San Clemente, which happened formally on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

The General Service Office of the municipality helped in the placement of the image of San Clemente in Wawa Lakeside Park in Brgy. San Vicente, at the behest of Fathers Mayor Jeri Mae and Mayor-Vice Gerry Calderon, assisted on May 3, 2022, Captain Bernie Balagtas led the said program.

Apart from San Clemente, San Isidro is also the patron saint of the town of Angono.

The placement of San Clemente's image in Wawa emphasizes the vital role of water in the life of San Clemente and in the art and culture of the town.

His image features the anchor or anchor, a crucial tool for sailing and sea voyages.

This anchor was also the iron anchor hung around the neck of St. Clement as a weight when he was exiled into the Crimean Sea by Emperor Trajan because of the strict embrace and Christian faith of the said patron.

It is believed that the angels built St. Clemente a beautiful underwater altar, which once a year, the water recedes for two miles, and his remains and anchor are visible.

Many years later, San Cirilo sought permission from Pope Adrian II to search for the remains of San Clemente. And when they saw the bones and the anchor, they laid it in the Basilica of St. Clement.

St. Clement was born in the 30A.D./Christ Age. As Pope, many in Rome baptized him, large or small, and rejected paganism.

Because of his genius in proclaiming the Good News and his firm embrace of the Christian faith, he was arrested and exiled to Crimea. In this area, he worked in the mine. Crimea is a water-scarce place with little rainfall.

In this situation, St. Clement performed a miracle when he opened a water fountain. As a result, more and more people were baptized, and 75 churches had to be built.

Meanwhile, Pagoda boats are also anchored in Wawa.

Also, in the town's history, the old image of San Clemente was taken from the painting in Laguna Lake by Justino Villaluz - the ancestor of Vicente Reyes and former Councilor Snooky Reyes. He now cares for the said image.
