BATANGAS CITY - The government recently provided financial assistance to 500 residents of Batangas' fifth district under the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) TUPAD (Economic Assistance for the Disadvantaged/Displaced) program.
The program is being implemented through the office of Fifth District Representative Marvey Marino's liaison with the DOLE for the corresponding funding, while the Batangas city government manages the potential beneficiaries.
According to a Batangas City Public Information Office report, most of the program beneficiaries are fishers from Isla Verde.
TUPAD is a community-based assistance package typically provided to displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers needing emergency employment. This will takes ten days and may not take 30 days, depending on the type of work.
Among the projects that the program can complete are social community projects such as repairing or renovating infrastructure such as schools and health centers, canal cleaning, material recovery and stockpiling, and canal cleaning.
There can also be economic community projects like renovation or rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads, bridges, post-harvest facilities, public markets, service facilities, and agroforestry community projects such as tree planting, transplanting, and reforestation.
Participants in the program give basic orientation on health and safety, as well as Personal Protective Equipment such as t-shirts and hats and TUPAD ID. (report from Batangas City PIO)
