BATANGAS CITY - As part of its awareness campaign against Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the City Health Office (CHO) held an AIDS candlelight memorial in the training room of the Office of the City Veterinary & Agricultural Services (OCVAS) (AIDS) on May 18.
“One Big Fight for Health and Rights of People Living with HIV” aims to spread the proper knowledge about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and reduce the ever-increasing number of cases and deaths.
HIV/AIDS is spread via sexual contact, blood or blood products, needle pricks, and breast milk.
A holy mass, prayer, and remembrance for those who died because of AIDS were held before the candle's lighting.
The said occasion featured the oath-taking ceremony and pledge of commitment of the Local AIDS Council (LAC) members in the city led by Mayor Beverley Dimacuha.
The LAC will oversee HIV/AIDS interventions and control programs to raise public awareness of preventing and treating AIDS.
The CHO urges people not to be afraid to contact and visit health centers or their offices to be tested and screened to address such a situation immediately.
They also reminded us that such a campaign is not only for members of the LGBT community but for all those who have sex.
