GUMACA, Quezon - The Gumaca local government promotes responsible animal care as part of this year's Patron San Isidro Labrador Festival.
Every May 15, agricultural towns in Quezon province celebrate the feast of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of good harvest, in a variety of ways, including the Agawan Festival in Sariaya, the Mayahon of Tayabas, the Pahiyas or officially the San Isidro Pahiyas Festival, and the Arana't Baluarte Festival in Gumaca.
On May 14, the pets debuted at Gumaca's Top Dog Show, organized by the Gumaca K9 Club.
Pet dogs compete in various events such as agility courses and fashion shows. Aside from the competitions, there was a free anti-rabies vaccination, consultation, and introductory obedience seminar.
Mayor Webster Letargo attended with his pets, Rigby and Buddy, in support and demonstration of responsible dog owners.
According to the mayor, the said activity is proof that the Gumaqueños value pet dogs. The organizers also thanked the sponsors who helped to carry out their project.

Before the San Isidro Labrador Festival feast, locals decorate their houses with rice stalks, a waterfall of fruits and vegetables, and, most notably, giant flowers and chandelier-like "arangya made from multi-colored kiping" (rice wafers).
Natives believe that houses along this route will be blessed by the saint.
