BATANGAS CITY - The City Health Office (CHO) in Batangas City's Medical Officer IV and dengue program coordinator recently encouraged the people to be vigilant of dengue fever this rainy season, despite the current lower number of cases compared to last year, and to work together to keep their homes and the environment clean.
Dengue is a viral infection contracted through the bite of a female Aedes mosquito carrying the dengue virus, with symptoms typically appearing four to ten days after being bitten by the mosquito.
These symptoms include a two to seven-day increase in fever, joint and muscle pain, pain behind the eyes, weakness, abdominal pain, nosebleeds, vomiting, and having small red rashes or a rash, difficulty breathing, and dark stools.
According to Dr. Ian Calingasan, Medical Officer IV and dengue program coordinator of the CHO, their office continues to provide information education campaign (IEC) in various barangays related to dengue.
He said the sanidad will also conduct a larval survey for possible breeding places of mosquitoes and in case there is a clustering of cases, it will conduct "Misting" or bombing against mosquitoes.
One of the ways to avoid this is the “4 o’clock habit” scheme of cleaning up areas that are likely to be infested with mosquitoes such as cans, piles of rubber, and so on.
It is also necessary to consult a doctor immediately or report immediately to the CHO in case of symptoms. (with reports PIO Batangas City)
