BINANGONAN, Rizal - A cash gift worth P100,000 was handed by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) on June 1, 2022, to residents who reached the ages of 90, 95, and 100.
According to the local government, the Senior Citizens Centenarian Award was given to two Binangonan residents, Leonila Galang Wenceslao of Barangay Bilibiran and Mrs. Leona Rivera Mesa of Barangay San Carlos.
It should be noted that Republic Act 10868, or the Centenarians Act of 2016, states that every Filipino who reaches the age of 100, whether they live in the Philippines or not, is entitled to a cash award or "centenarian gift."
A duly completed application form must be obtained and completed for qualified centenarians at any Social Welfare and Development Office-District Office. A birth certificate that has been authenticated or a Philippine passport is also required.
An applicant may also present a senior citizen identification card issued by the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs Head and indicate the applicant's year of birth and other Philippine Government-issued IDs.
A barangay (village) certificate proving the centenarian's residency is also required.
Every year, beginning in January, each barangay captain or social worker must submit a list of centenarians and those who are 99 years old in their areas.
The release and awarding of cash incentives shall take place on National Respect For Centenarian's Day, held on the first Sunday of October each year, or on the centenarian's 100th birthday, whichever comes first. (with reports from Binangonan Municipal Government, Rizal)
