LOS BAÑOS, Laguna - One of the priorities of the newly elected mayor of Los Baños is to strengthen ties between local government and educational institutions.
Recently, incoming Mayor Anthony 'Ton' Genuino met with Chancellor Jose V. Camacho of the University of the Philippines Los Baños to discuss the development of an agro-industrial park within the University with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
“Isa ito sa mga unang hakbang, upang higit pang patatagin ang ugnayan ng ating LGUs sa mga institusyon ng edukasyon sa bayan, tulad ng UPLB,” Genuino said.
According to the mayor, the master plan is finalized and will provide many opportunities to Los Baños residents.
Genuino added that this will significantly benefit the students because they will no longer have to leave the university for their on-the-job training. Through the construction of the agro-industrial park, they will be able to directly interact with facilities and companies from various investors.
In 2021, UPLB began to plan to build an agro-industrial and information technology park within the University.
UPLB also partnered with the Public-Private Partnership Center in formulating the project to encourage the private sector to implement it. (reports from FC, PIA Laguna)
