TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite – The city government of Imus led a Candlelight Memorial on May 30 to end stigma against the disease and continue to advance the reach of reasonable protection and healing of HIV/AIDS.
Held at Velarde Health Center in Barangay Medicion 1-C, City Health Office head Dr. Ferdie Mina was joined by PLHIV and PLAIDS or People Living with HIV/AIDS and hundreds of LGBTQ+ and HIV communities in AIDS Hour set from 5pm until 6 in the evening coinciding with the observance of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (IACM) 2022 to commemorate those who have died of AIDS.
Anchoring on this year's theme, “Keeping the Light, Honoring our Rights, Radiating Pride”, the activity served as a platform for unity of various groups to raise awareness on the different HIV programs of the government and civil society organizations geared towards the commitment to the advocacy of eliminating HIV and AIDS-related stigma and discrimination.
In an interview prior from the start of the event, Dr. Mina was quoted in saying that "Imus LGU provides medicines for the patients with HIV, They need to visit the Center; regarding consultation, we have group message or so called Group Chat (GC) at doon na kami-kami nag-uusap ng mga patients."
As of to date, the City Health Office (CHO) recorded around 355 cases since they started in 2017. 12 of them died of the disease. (Ruel Francisco/with reports from Dennis Abrina)
