CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 4-A dropped more than 50,000 pieces of Bighead Carp semen in various towns around Laguna Lake on June 3 as part of the Balik Sigla program in BASIL, or Rivers and Lakes.
The program aims to rehabilitate and restore the region's lakes, rivers, dams, and reservoirs to good physical condition.
The towns of Pangil, Siniloan, Paete, Pakil, and Kalayaan, located beneath the lake, each received 10,000 pieces of Bighead Carp semen.
According to BFAR 4A, the program was a success led by BASIL Regional Focal Person Nenita Kawit, in collaboration with the Laguna Provincial Fisheries Office and local governments.
The BASIL program aims to increase the number of ‘indigenous’ fish in ‘targeted management areas’ to further enrich the fishing industry, increase its contribution to the food supply, and protect the country’s natural resources. - CH, PIA 4A (Report from BFAR 4A)
