BATANGAS CITY - Officers and members of the Batangas Marine Protected Area and the Bantay Dagat Network (BMPAN and BBDN) met recently at the Balayan Government Center in Balayan, Batangas, for a regular meeting.

MPA Lead Persons and Bantay Dagat Coordinators from Balayan, Bauan, Calaca, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, Lobo, Mabini, Nasugbu, San Juan, San Luis, San Pascual, Taal, Tingloy, and Batangas City, and also Focal Persons of national government agencies and non-government organizations, attended.



Honorable Emmanuel Salvador P. Fronda II, Head of Balayan, congratulated the members of BMPAN and BBDN and gave a meaningful message to all. He was also happy to be proud of their new building for providing more comfortable and cozy services to the people and receiving guests for the continued development of Balayan town.

The meeting presented the programs and activities of BMPAN and BBDN for the past month of January to June 2022, related to the management of MPAs, patrolling, and protection of the Coast Guard along with enforcement agencies against illegal and harmful ocean activities.



Other upcoming activities, such as the preparation of a provincial ordinance for the resumption of the implementation of the “closed season” for the rest of the Bays of Batangas Province, development of a Strategic Management Plan for BMPAN and BBDN, continued were also thoroughly discussed. Preparation for the monitoring and removal of Crown-of-Thorns Starfish or Taeng Kalabaw in MPAs, preparation for updating of individual MPA Management Plans, and preparation for continued delineation of municipal waters for the towns of San Pascual, Bauan, San Luis, Taal, Lemery, Calaca, Balayan, Calatagan, Lian and Batangas City.

The Provincial Government of Batangas, through the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office, actively participated in the said meeting; under the direction of Gov. DoDo Mandanas, will continue various initiatives to maintain a healthy and prosperous ocean, and a clean and green environment throughout the province, even during a pandemic.
