CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - Calabarzon minimum wage earners will receive an additional P47 to P92 per day once the new wage order approved by the Calabarzon Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board goes into effect.
This is according to a statement issued by Secretary of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Silvestre Bello III.
According to Wage Order RBIVA-19, the new minimum wage for non-agriculture workers in the extended metropolitan area, including Antipolo City and Dasmarias City, will be P470; P429 for component cities and first-class municipalities, and P390 for those in second to sixth class municipalities.
For workers in the agricultural sector, P429 new minimum wage has been set for those in the extended metropolitan area, component cities, and first-class municipalities, including Antipolo City and Dasmariñas City; P390 for those in second and third-class municipalities, while P350 for those in fourth class to sixth class municipalities.
RTWB IV-A also approved an additional P47 daily wage for establishments with less than 10 total workers. Therefore, the new minimum wage that employees will receive from the previous P303 will be up to P350.
According to Bello, the increase in the daily wage will be provided in two tranches. The first tranche of the increase will be given the time the new minimum wage order becomes effective, while the second will be received six months after that.
According to Bello, some of the factors considered by the RTWPB in setting the new minimum wage order are the 'purchasing power of workers, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, wage levels in unfamiliar situations in other regions, simplification of the existing wage structure, and the promotion of industry expansion in different parts of the area.
The said wage order has already been submitted to the National Wages and Productivity Commission for review and approval. It will take effect 15 days after publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the region. (report from DOLE)
