LUCENA CITY - The local government of Lucena City recently launched Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan at Lucena City's Quezon Convention Center.
According to Republic Act 11524, or the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte, the CFIDP aims to increase coconut farmers' production and income and provide assistance for their education and social equity, and modernize and restructure the coconut industry.
Social Protection; Coconut Farmers Organization and Development; Hybridization; Community-based Farm Enterprise Development: Farm Rehabilitation and Improvement; Integrated Coconut Processing and Downstream Products (Shared Facilities); Innovative Research Projects and their Practical Application on Coconut Processing, Production, and Distribution; and Support Services are all part of the CFIDP.
In his message, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar announced that implementing the program is a key to raising the livelihood of coconut farmers.
“Sa pamamagitan ng CFIDP ay ating pinagsama ang pwersa ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno, isinusulong ang paggamit ng modernong pamamaraan ng pagsasaka, at paggamit ng better varieties, upang makamit ang positibong pagtaas ng produksyon at kita ng mga magniniyog. Tunay pong buhay at pag-asa ang hatid ng coconut farmers and industry trust fund.”
Part of the program is the distribution of brochures about DA-4A coffee, cocoa, and vegetable seeds to give more knowledge to coconut farmers.
The implementation of CFIDP will last for fifty years to ensure the continuous improvement of the livelihood of coconut farmers in the country.
