LUCENA CITY - The Department of Health (DOH) Calabarzon implemented a national government program in Lucena City. This department's school-based program, a component of the government's effort to be ready for the start of schools this August, has the slogan "Balik Eskwela, Balik Sigla Para sa Henerasyong Healthy."
The program was formally introduced to the school by DOH-Center for Health Development Calabarzon under the direction of Regional Director Dr. Ariel Valencia and Dr. Lizette Gutierrez Fontanilla, president of the Philippine Pediatric Society, and in partnership with the Department of Education Calabarzon.
It was hosted by the Lucena City LGU in Kanlurang Mayao Elementary School recently under the leadership of Mayor Mark Alcala and the City Health Officer Dra. Jocelyn Chua and other concerned officials Brgy. Kanlurang Mayao Chairwoman Adela Nave and Local Youth Ambassadress Angelica Alcala.
The program's goal was to spread nutrition and health knowledge before the start of the new school year based on the DOH's initiative to combat the seasonal dengue virus risk.
The regional office also sent the government city anti-dengue kits, which the city can use to limit dengue. The school also received some associated equipment, such as anti-mosquito equipment, and Alcala personally assisted in installing Olyset nets on the school's windows.
The schools in the city received a healthy school clinic kit, which includes first aid kits, a weighing scale, a blood pressure device, a thermal scanner, a nebulizer, and a pulse oximeter.
Prior to the direction of Mayor Alcala, the LGU Lucena City pledged its continued cooperation in supporting the improvement of citizens' health in the city through program promotion and coordination in this type of DOH campaign during the program conducted for the said program.
Meanwhile, Ariel Valencia, DOH 4A Regional Director, urged the public and teachers to implement the 4S Strategy in schools and homes to prevent the spread of dengue disease this rainy season.
According to Director Valencia, face-to-face classes in all schools this August will ensure children's protection against dengue and COVID-19.
Valencia added that teaching children about cleanliness and environmental cleaning are crucial for a healthy lifestyle.
The 4S Strategy; Search and destroy, Self-protection measure, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging.
