LOS BANOS, Laguna - The Food Share Program (FSP) was launched and orientated on July 28 by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) IV-A to alleviate hunger and malnutrition and support families severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially, the DSWD IV-A chose 30 families to be program beneficiaries. As part of the FSP, each family will receive subsidized meals for six months. Unilever Philippines also pitched in with 25 kilos of rice.
In response, the beneficiaries will participate in backyard and community gardening activities associated with the program to ensure each family's food security from their crops.
Victoria Wieneke, President of Kabisig ng Kalahi Inc., assured the people their collaboration with the government is just getting started. He said the local government would work with the private sector to combat hunger.
According to Mayor Anthony Genuino, his administration plans to have a cold storage facility or large freezers in the town, where various products during calamities.
Genuino also responded to the issue of food security by having a trading post where the municipality can purchase high-quality products and crops that they will sell at a lower price. (with report from Municipal Government of Los Baños)
