INFANTA, Quezon - 97 young Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) beneficiaries have been provided with adequate nutrition at the Mega Bigay Sustansya Program in Infanta recently.
Beneficiaries will get nutritional intervention based on the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) assessment and pre-screening by the Rural Health Unit, which will be run by the Mega Tiu Lim Foundation and Reach Out and Feed Philippines Inc. in conjunction with DSWD.
For 120 days, this feeding program will provide free lunch and snacks to children aged 4 to 12 from Barangays Dinahican, Binulasan, and Libjo.
Also included in the program is providing training to parents about the proper preparation of healthy food for their respective families.
The 4Ps is a national government human development measure that provides conditional cash grants to the poorest of the poor to improve the health, nutrition, and education of children aged 0-18.
Modeled after the conditional cash transfer (CCT) schemes have lifted millions out of poverty in Latin American and African countries.
The DSWD is the 4Ps' lead government agency.
The 4Ps also assist the Philippine government in meeting its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), explicitly eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, lowering child mortality, and improving maternal health care.
The 4Ps are present in all 17 regions of the Philippines, including 79 provinces, 143 cities, and 1,484 municipalities.
The National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), which identifies who and where the poor live in the nation, is used to select beneficiaries.
During the same meeting, the Department of Education discussed its priority programs and projects for primary education, while the Department of Social Welfare did the same for social welfare.
